Last month, Touchten released its newest game for iOS that later on is also available for Android. Anton Soeharyo, CEO of Touchten, says that Infinite Sky is released with freemium strategy; it’s free for the time being and will be changed to paid later on. Until today, Infinite Sky still has a good rank on the free game download in iTunes Store.
I have another conversation with Anton to ask about the latest development of Infinite Sky game. It is explained that the total download reaches 224.552 with the highest comes from US, UK and China and placed 14 on the overall app rank in the United States (by the time this article is written). Meanwhile, in App Store Indonesia, Infinite Sky ranked 9 for top free. In addition, based on a data sent to DailySocial, this game also places in a good rank in several markets such in the US and UK and several other countries.
This game has also been updated with various new facility such as pilot with Indonesian feel, gameplay with joystick (before, it’s only tilt method), first person view and fast speed, difficulty level adjustment, etc. and the most affecting one when I played it is faster loading time.
The strategy of free game for a certain period is run by Touchten to maximized potential buyer who tries on this game for free. User is also directed to be ‘sales person’, so those who like Infinite Sky can introduce this game to other potential users.
Anton explains that after so many ‘sales person’ are created, it will switch to paid app, so trying Infinite Sky for free to paid is its monetization facility. Interesting, but not without challenge, because Touchten must be able to provide additional facility to attract user to spend their money and buy.
iOS is done, as well as Android and web game, but it hasn’t have any plan to port this game to another platform, with focus being the reason. Touchten wants to focus to chosen platforms before developing for another. Right now, it has 11 people team and will add more people to join this month.
The rank obtained by Touchten for this free app is indeed interesting. In certain markets, it places above other popular game such as Temple Run, Jetpack Joyride, Subway Surfers, Where is my water? One of the factors is might be the update to upgrade the game, added feature and faster load. In addition, Infinite Sky was included in #BecauseWeMay before, this time it’s in App-o-Day, which is one of the method to promote an app.
As reported in the previous article, Infinite Sky is intended for global market. So what about the local market which the customer of this game is also growing? Anton says that currently, Indonesia is in a transition phase, gaming ecosystem is not yet formed, although the community is ready to spend money for good game, but the payment method is still not so good. Anton mentions that he is sure that in the next few months, there will be a solution for this.
Note: I’m using the iOS version to write my experience playing the game and the update that i mentioned abobe were Infinite Sky updates for iOS, i haven’t tried the Android version. You can also see the reviews for this game for iOS or Android. Although some reviews stating this game had an error moment, when i tried with the iOS version which has been updated, the game is running and can be played.
