Telkomsel, Indonesia’s largest mobile carrier has launched a local messaging service called CWEETA. Unlike other data-based messaging apps, CWEETA requires no Internet connection nor does it use an app. The service uses USSD technology which is commonly used by carriers, to allow Telkomsel customers to exchange messages with each other.
Monitise through its joint venture company AGIT Monitise Indonesia announces it has attracted 60,000 registered users of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) Money in the first three months. BBM Money is an integrated micropayment solution through BlackBerry Messenger, a collaboration with BlackBerry and Permata Bank. It is targeted to reach 200,000 registered users by the end of the year.
During BlackBerry Live, CEO Thorsten Heins announced the availability of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) for iOS and Android this coming summer. To use the free BBM service will require iOS 6 or Android 4.0.
